A Cult Favorite Mascara Dupe!

The Lash Princess mascara is a frequent repurchase of mine. There’s no guessing games with this mascara. It just does what you need it too- lengthens, separates, and thickens. Well, I used this like crazy until I discovered the It Cosmetics Superhero Mascara. I just love the “falsies” effect it gives me!

I did some recent decluttering, and I rediscovered my Lash Princess. I opened her up again and was amazed at how similar it is to my Superhero! So I thought I’d jump on here and do a little comparison for you!

It Cosmetics Superhero Elastic Stretch Volumizing Mascara $24

Details: Formulated with powerful peptides and proteins, strengthening biotin, lash-lifting polymers and plumping collagen, this anti-aging mascara will take your lashes to new heights. The innovative formula and Lash-Changing Power Brush work together to coat every lash from base to tips, lifting and separating to create a fuller lash line – no lash is left behind! This super-black mascara is also super-buildable, so lash power is at your fingertips; simply apply more coats to add volume and length.

Thoughts: Let’s start with the brush head. I love this shape. It’s narrow at the end to grab the inner corner and widens to grab to outer lashes. The whole brush itself is on the narrow side, so you don’t end up hitting your upper lid (which happens for me with a thick brush).

I apply two coats with about 10 strokes. The formula applies evenly with little to know clumping. Lashes are separated, lengthened, and thickened. The most dramatic action I notice with this is the lengthening, so the go it right with the “stretch” name. My lash length seems doubled!

This lasts me a 12 hours shift with no flaking. It washes off easily with a regular cleanser.

And now for the dupe…

Essence Lash Princess Mascara

Cost: $4.99

Details: Essence’s Original Lash Princess has a big and bold sister with voluminous false lash effects, Lash Princess False Lash Effect Mascara! The conic shape fiber brush provides lashes with dramatic volume and sculpted length. Opthalmologically tested. Not tested on animals.

Thoughts: This has the same exact cone shaped brush head as the It Cosmetics. This also goes on evenly with little to no clumping. It separates and thickens my lashes with little effort (I also use about 10 strokes). This lasts just as long and washes off easily. It gives a false lash effect which I looooove!

The only difference between the two is the Lash Princess formula is slightly wetter. I don’t mind this. For me, it makes it easier for me to work with. I find it takes more effort/coats with a drier formula.

  1. You have enviable lashes! 😮
I tried the Essence mascara and while it did provide crazy volume and length, it smudge like crazy on me! It’s great to find a cheaper dupe though. 🙂
